The Treasure Island redevelopment project in San Francisco is a multi-phase effort transforming a former naval base into a sustainable, mixed-use community. The $6 billion project, led by Treasure Island Community Development, includes approximately 8,000 homes, 2,000 of which will be affordable, along with retail spaces, commercial offices, hotels, and extensive public parks and open spaces.

A Former Naval Base Becomes a Neighborhood

Phase One has already begun and will deliver 2,100 residential units, 90 acres of parks, and a new intermodal transit hub with ferry service to San Francisco. The two main residential neighborhoods offer views of the Bay Area, with housing, retail, and recreational spaces integrated throughout the plan.

Work at this scale calls on a wide range of materials. Channel Lumber stocks lumber and plywood at its 14 acre yard in Richmond, and our mill provides custom mill work when a project needs material cut to a specification.

Sustainability Sets the Standard

Sustainability is at the forefront of the project, which has earned LEED-ND Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, making it one of the world's top-rated sustainable developments. The plan addresses energy efficiency, water conservation, and sea-level rise adaptation. Features include compact, walkable neighborhoods, renewable energy integration, and green infrastructure, along with vegetated slopes and open spaces that balance urban density with natural elements.

What does Channel Lumber keep in stock?

Our 14 acre Richmond yard carries timbers, dimensional lumber, plywood, treated lumber and plywood, crane mats, crating materials, and hardware. We also regularly stock fire-retardant, pressure treated, and marine-grade product.

What can the mill produce?

The mill is equipped with re-saws, a planer, molders, and trim saws, which lets us custom mill specified materials when an item is not in stock.

Where does Channel Lumber deliver?

Our yellow trucks run from Santa Rosa to Santa Cruz and Stockton to San Francisco, the largest lumber delivery fleet in the Bay Area.
