San Francisco International Airport

Transportation | San Francisco, California

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is currently undergoing a multi-tiered construction and renovation project, with concrete forms, lumber and services provided by Channel Lumber.

The centerpiece of the new construction is a redevelopment of Terminal 1. The current volume of passengers, and modern travel needs far exceed the capacity of the 1960’s built terminal. With a projected completion of 2024, this $2.4 billion dollar project will feature a complete redesign and construction of T1.

SFO and Channel Lumber are committed to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®). SFO’s Terminal 1 will elevate SFO’s award winning standard for providing a safe, world class, environmentally friendly travel experience. In the plans are a consolidated security check-point, newly designed waiting areas, modernized concessions, and a state of the art baggage handling system. Transportation access and options will also be improved.

Additional construction projects include a new air traffic control tower and on-airport hotel. The control tower is currently complete and utilizes leading edge technology, providing passengers with the safest travel possible.

The on-airport hotel will be completed in 2019. The vision is to build the finest hotel of its kind by creating an outstanding property with a smart, modern design, and a highly carbon-efficient operation to augment the previous environmental successes of SFO.
